Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint in Plymouth

An armed robber who carried out a "cowardly assault" on a taxi driver by threatening him at knifepoint is being sought by police.

The cab was called to Fox Tor Close in the West Park area of Plymouth on Saturday morning.

The robber got into the back of the taxi and threatened the driver with a 3in (7.5cm) knife before getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The driver was unhurt but left very shaken, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The taxi was called from a nearby public phone, and the robber ran off in the direction of Shaldon Crescent afterwards, police said.

Det Con Kevan Lawson, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "This was a cowardly assault on a person just trying to honestly earn a living."

The robber was described as in his late teens or early 20s, about 5ft 8in (1.73m) tall, of slim build, wearing dark clothing and a beanie hat.
