Tavistock pub owner, 72, attacked with iron bar

A 72-year-old pub landlord has been attacked with an iron bar in a Devon pub.

He was attacked at about 03:30 BST in the Market Inn, Tavistock, after he opened the door to a man who barged in.

The suspect demanded money and hit him with the iron bar, causing him significant bruising as he tried to protect himself.

The attacker wore dark clothes and a balaclava. Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.

Police said the till had been broken into but it was not yet known if any money had been taken in the "shocking and disturbing incident".

The pub was previously burgled on the night of the 4 August when cash and other items were taken, the force added.
