Exeter daylight thieves take £38,500 jewels

Jewellery worth £38,500 has been stolen in a raid on an Exeter shop.

Two men and a woman walked into Ernest Jones Jewellers in the High Street at 14:30 BST and stole a quantity of Fope jewellery.

Police said the woman stood in front of a CCTV camera, blocking the view and the others opened a secure display cabinet on the shop floor.

A police spokesman called it an "unusual occurrence" and no staff were threatened.

Both men are described as white, with short hair, aged in their 40s and wearing or carrying a dark coat.

The woman suspect is white with long straight hair, aged 20 to 40, wearing a long halter neck dress, a multi coloured or striped bag with rope handle and flip flops.

Police want to hear from any shops or outlets items of jewellery for sale.

A spokesman said: "Shops and stores should ensure that security measures in place are active and working correctly."
