A man charged with the murder of a pensioner has appeared in court.

Brian Anthony Short, 52, from the Devonport area of Plymouth was arrested on Friday following the death of 76-year-old Michael Brincat.

Mr Brincat, known locally as Maltese Mike, was found at his Marlborough House flat in Devonport on 6 February.

Mr Short appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court to confirm his name and address and was remanded in custody.

He is due before Plymouth Crown Court on 20 February where he is expected to enter a plea.
