Exeter City Council trials late opening hours

A council in Devon is to trial late openings of its civic offices to the public for the next six months.

Exeter City Council will be opening its doors until 19:00 BST on Thursdays as it said there was a demand for its services out of "traditional hours".

Officers will be on hand to deal with an expected increase in inquiries following changes in benefits being introduced by Central Government.

If successful the late night opening could become permanent, it said.

Inquiries about housing benefits, rents, planning and council tax can be dealt with during the late opening trial.
