Swimmer rescued from sea near Kingsbridge dies

A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in south Devon.

The man, known to be a strong sea swimmer, was brought unconscious to shore with the help of a kayaker at Beesands near Kingsbridge.

Police said the man, in his 40s, from the South Hams area, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he was later pronounced dead.

The man had been endurance swimming with another man said police.

Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances.
