Three crashes on the A38 in Devon have caused major tailbacks.

The collisions happened on the westbound carriageway and led to traffic queues building up over several miles near Newton Abbot and Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

None of the three collisions were linked, police said. Some drivers were reported to have been stuck in traffic for more than two hours.

The Highways Agency said the road near South Brent could remain closed until the early hours of Tuesday.
