Honiton nightclub rape suspect hunted by police

A 25-year-old woman was raped by a man near a nightclub in Honiton, Devon, police said.

The woman told Devon and Cornwall Police she was approached by the man outside the Pitt Club in Silver Street.

He then followed her to the nearby cattle market car park where he raped her before running off.

Officers investigating the attack, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, are currently studying CCTV but no arrests have yet been made.

"This is very distressing and upsetting for the victim and we need the public's help," a police spokesman said.

The suspect is described as a slim-built white man, aged about 21, with dark hair and about 5ft 8in (1.7m).

He was wearing a long-sleeved grey top, jeans and a belt which may have had a metal buckle.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the Pitt Club, or in the town, on Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday morning to get in touch," the spokesman said.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man approach a woman in the Silver Street area, which is in close proximity to the club."
