A team of military junior doctors from Devon has completed the Rovaniemi 150 ultra-marathon in Lapland.

Flt Lt Michael Thompson (Royal Air Force), Surgeon Lt Alex Bamford (Royal Navy) and Capt George Graham (British Army) covered 150km (93 miles) of Northern Finland.

They raised £6,000 for Combat Stress, a charity for service veterans.

"We all had moments throughout the race when finishing looked impossible," Flt Lt Thompson said.

"The vast distances, prolonged darkness and hostile environment were to be expected, but I don't think any of us could have anticipated the added burden of such individual isolation."

Lt Bamford finished the race in second place, completing it in 25 hours 55 minutes.

Flt Lt Thompson and Capt Graham finished in equal sixth place with a time of 34 hours 20 minutes.

The race took place through the Finnish landscape around Lapland's main city, Rovaniemi.
