A man has admitted stabbing a 27-year-old woman in the neck near an old railway line in Devon.

Gary Hopes, 44, pleaded guilty to wounding with with intent at Exeter Crown Court.

The woman suffered a "number of significant injuries" during the attack, which lead to a major police manhunt, the court heard.

Hopes, of Authers Heights, Tiverton, will be sentenced on 28 November after a psychiatric report is prepared.

He was arrested at a hotel in London after the attack.
