A further two people have appeared in court charged with alleged abuse at care homes in Devon.

Timothy Berry, 23, of Cranford, Bideford was charged with five counts of false imprisonment and one charge of ill treatment.

Samantha Honey, 26, of Whitstone near Holsworthy is accused of three counts of false imprisonment. Both defendants appeared at Exeter Magistrates' Court.

The charges relate to alleged abuse at homes run by Atlas Project Team Ltd.

Previously, 22 people appeared in court charged with offences, between 2009 and 2012, related to the Veilstone, Gatooma and Teignmead care homes.

The homes were closed in 2012 following inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after concerns were raised about the treatment of residents.

All 24 defendants have been bailed and are due to appear before Exeter Crown Court on 21 November.
