A car driver has died after a crash with a lorry that overturned.

The lorry, carrying logs, shed its load on the A39 between Bideford and Barnstaple in Devon at about 06:50 GMT on Wednesday.

The 57-year-old car driver from Bideford was freed from his vehicle by fire crews but was pronounced dead in hospital, said police.

The lorry driver suffered minor injuries. Traffic is being diverted though Yelland.

Poor weather overnight hampered driving around Devon and Cornwall.

A 56-year-old woman was seriously injured in another collision, between a truck and a 4x4 at Princetown on Dartmoor, on Wednesday morning.

The woman was cut free from her vehicle after the collision on the B3357 between Two Bridges and North Hessory.
