M5 motorway crash driver killed near Cullompton

A woman has died after a car and a lorry collided on the M5 in Devon.

The car driver, a 57-year-old woman from Tiverton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her male passenger was not injured.

The crash near Cullompton involved a heavy goods vehicle and a silver Vauxhall Omega .

The lorry driver, a 64-year-old man from Cardiff, was unhurt. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was taken to Heavitree Road Police Station in Exeter. He was uninjured.

The collision happened at about 12:17 GMT on the northbound carriageway between junctions 28 and 29 , said Devon and Cornwall Police.

The Highways Agency said the section of road was likely to be closed until 18:00 GMT and is diverting traffic.

An air ambulance was called to the scene.
