Man dies after being restrained in Paignton
A man who became unconscious while being restrained outside a bar in Devon has died in hospital.
Police said the 38-year-old was restrained outside Murphy's Roadhouse on the Esplanade in Paignton on Wednesday night.
Officers had responded to reports of a disturbance between two men and door staff.
He was taken to Torbay District Hospital where he died on Saturday, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Three men, aged 54, 43 and 35, who were arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the altercation, have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Assistant Chief Constable Russ Middleton said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, and we are providing support at this difficult time."
He said an investigation into the incident was under way.
"We will also co-operate fully with the IPCC separate independent investigation into police involvement in the incident," he added.
