A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a 76-year-old woman from Plymouth.

Her body was found at a house in Ashleigh Close, Tamerton Foliot, on Tuesday morning after reports of a disturbance at the property.

A 79-year-old man found injured at the house remains in a serious condition at Derriford Hospital, police said.

Detectives said they plan to speak to the man when his condition has improved.

Det Insp Ian Ringrose said the force was making house-to-house inquiries to establish whether any neighbours noticed suspicious activity.

The post mortem will take place on the deceased woman later, with formal identification to follow.
