Two Devon craftswomen have produced what is thought to be the world's first 24-carat gold-leafed surfboard.

Ellie Miller and Danni Bradford say the surfboard valued at £125,000 and named 'The Aureus', is completely functional.

The pair, from Braunton, north Devon, made it as a "challenge" and said it had never been done before.

Professional surfer Andrew Cotton said: "For me, as a former surfboard shaper, glasser, sander, the finish is amazing."

Ms Miller said: "The emphasis all the way through was creating something beautiful, but also something completely functional, because we knew for sure that nobody had ever done that.

"We had a lot of fun doing it. It was challenging as craftswomen, but I think that was probably one of the biggest reasons for doing it, to challenge ourselves."
