Poole GP struck off for groping four staff members

A Dorset GP who groped female staff, looked at pornographic images on his work computer and was drunk at his surgery, has been struck off.

Dr Ralph Vadas said he was "exploring boundaries" when he touched the hips, bottoms and stomachs of staff at West Canford Heath Medical Centre in Poole.

Patients also complained after spotting a webcam in his consulting room and seeing him with cans of strong lager.

A General Medical Council (GMC) panel found Vadas guilty of 59 charges.

'Wobbled flesh'

His treatment was so dangerous one woman even became addicted to morphine, a form of heroin, after Vadas recommended it as a cure for headaches, the hearing was told.

Vadas, 56, admitted touching four employees between 2003 and 2007 at the surgery.

In one case the GP put his hand up his receptionist's jumper and asked: "Can I have a feel?".

He also approached a nurse from behind and "wobbled her flesh", admitting he got a thrill from larger women.

The panel has heard that a receptionist saw images of "scantily clad, large women" on the computer at the surgery and images which had been printed out, on the floor of Vadas's room.

Pernod smell

Practice manager Ann Wilkinson told the hearing her boss was often "as high as a kite" and sometimes smelled of alcohol.

She told the hearing: "I could smell on occasions a smell like aniseed, similar to Pernod, and I was told by other members of staff that they had seen bottles upstairs."

Ralph Bergmann, chair of the GMC panel, told Vadas: "While a number of the failings which have been identified in your clinical care could be considered individually to be less serious, overall they represent persistently serious misconduct over a prolonged period of time."

Vadas was found guilty of misconduct in 2002 when he put a man's pains down to over-indulging at Christmas. He actually had fatal stomach cancer.

In October 2002 the GMC found the GP guilty of professional misconduct but he was allowed to continue practising after extra training.

Less than a year later, in August 2003, Vadas groped his district nursing sister's bottom.
