Weymouth and Portland councillor charged with assault
A Weymouth and Portland councillor has been charged with assault.
Christine James, 51, who represents Westham North, was held over an alleged attack on a man earlier this month.
She was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates' Court on 9 September.
The Liberal Democrat councillor was first elected to the council in 2004 and is the cabinet member for transport and infrastructure.
A spokeswoman for the council would not comment on the matter.
