Christchurch Borough Council leader to step down

A council chief has resigned after almost eight years as leader.

Councillor Alan Griffiths, leader of Christchurch Borough Council, said he was stepping down due to personal reasons.

The Conservative-run council said deputy leader, councillor John Lofts, would become acting leader until a full-time replacement was announced.

Mr Lofts called his predecessor "a respected colleague and friend" whose leadership skills would be missed.
