Bournemouth and Poole councils to merge adult learning

Two neighbouring councils in Dorset are expected to merge their adult learning services from August.

Bournemouth council's cabinet has agreed the plans with the Borough of Poole set to make a decision at a cabinet meeting on 5 April.

The departments are already sharing some resources. A joint management team has been set up and courses are already listed in a jointly published brochure.

The councils said the move had so far reduced shared costs by £91,000 a year.

A spokesman for Bournemouth Borough Council said both authorities' adult learning venues will continue to operate as normal with teaching staff remaining at the same locations.

Non-teaching staff will be relocated to the central headquarters at Oakdale Centre in Poole between May and July 2011.
