Dorset heath fires treated as suspicious

Three heath fires which happened on the same day in Dorset are being treated as suspicious.

Dorset Police said heathland in Bourne Bottom nature reserve, Poole, and Turbary Common, Bournemouth, was damaged in the fires on Monday.

A 20m by 30m area was damaged in the first incident, behind Benbow Crescent in Poole at about 0610 GMT.

Two separate fires were also started at Turbary Common between 1000 GMT and 1030 GMT, police said.

One of the fires affected the centre of the common while the other was lit near the entrance off Wallisdown Road, next to Knighton Heath Industrial Estate.

An area measuring about 50m by 50m was damaged.

All three fires were extinguished by Dorset Fire and Rescue Service.

Police are appealing for information.
