Dorset road reopens after repair work delay

A road in Dorset has reopened six months later than expected after extensive damage was discovered by workers carrying out repair work.

Sudan Road, near to Sandsfoot Beach in Weymouth, was shut in April 2010 to protect public safety whilst work to the Rodwell Trail above took place.

A section of the parapet wall had been cracked by roots from trees.

The maintenance work between Old Castle Road to Clearmount Road was expected to take six months but had to be extended.

"The structure had to be carefully opened up and partly dismantled before the final stage of works could be undertaken," said a council spokeswoman.

"The damage has now been resolved."
