Canford Heath blaze tacked by Dorset fire crews

Fire crews tackled a large heath fire in Dorset overnight on Saturday.

About 40 firefighters were called to the fire at Canford Heath, Poole, which the fire service said had been started deliberately.

Crews used "beaters" and hoses to put out the flames and stayed at the scene until Sunday morning when officers were due to re-inspect the site.

About three hectares (7.5 acres) of land was destroyed. An investigation has begun.

Every year dozens of heath fires affect the south Dorset area.
