Charminster road works near completion

Drivers passing through parts of a Dorset seaside town are being warned of a number of road works being completed over the next week.

Repairs are taking place at the junction of Charminster Road, Alma Road and Richmond Park Road, Bournemouth, which are due to be finished on 27 May.

The improvements have been backed by local traders who are hoping it will encourage more business into the town.

Work is scheduled to take place until 2300 BST until Friday.

Improvements include repairing and reconstructing the roads within the junction, replacing all kerbs and upgrading the existing traffic signals.

Pedestrians will also benefit from a new controlled-crossing on Charminster Road and there will be a number of advanced stop lines for cyclists.

Lesley Stephenson, chairman of Charminster Traders' Association, said there had been little impact on the local business community.

"These have been much needed major improvement works and the council has worked hard to keep disruption to a minimum," she added."

Traders are set to start a new campaign encouraging people to visit Charminster from 4 June.
