New Dorset traffic warden powers start

New powers have come into force in Dorset which allow traffic wardens to hand out more fines, including for inconsiderate parking.

Fines can also now be sent by post to people who drive off before a notice is put on their vehicle or drivers who prevent tickets being issued.

Wardens are also able to take action if vehicles are parked more than 50cm from a kerb or in front of dropped kerbs.

But the authority said it will take a "sensitive approach" to these rules.

It added: "New powers of enforcement will help deal with inconsiderate and selfish parking at pedestrian dropped kerbs and dropped kerbs outside someone's property.

"Residents will still be able to park their own or their visitors' vehicles outside their house.

"Generally, enforcement of dropped kerbs will not be targeted but reactive to meet the demands of householders."
