Pupils absent in Dorset school virus outbreak

About 70 pupils and seven staff have stayed at home after a suspected outbreak of the vomiting and diarrhoea bug norovirus at a school in Dorset.

Canford Heath school in Poole remains open but is undergoing a deep clean.

The school has about 400 pupils but about 70 were absent on Thursday after parents were told to keep children at home if they were displaying symptoms.

Poole council said the outbreak was contained to the school. Children started to show symptoms on Wednesday.

The Health Protection Agency has been informed and is offering hygiene advice to the school, which teaches eight to 12 year olds.
