Cause of large heath fire in Dorset still unknown

The cause of a large heath fire in Dorset which had threatened power lines is still being investigated.

Crews were called to Dudmoor Heath near St Catherine's Hill in Christchurch, where an area 200m (656ft) by 20m (66ft) was alight, on Monday.

Engineers were called amid fears that flames could threaten power lines but the blaze was extinguished safely.

A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The cause is unknown and it's likely to stay that way."

Crews are currently damping down hot-spots.
