Swimmer hurt as head hits rocks off Dorset coast

A teenage swimmer was airlifted to hospital after he was caught by a wave and hit his head on rocks off the Dorset coast.

The 14-year-old was swimming in the Portland Bill area when he was knocked unconscious on Friday evening.

Portland Coastguard scrambled its helicopter and the crew treated the boy at the scene for serious head injuries.

He managed to regain consciousness and was airlifted to Dorchester County Hospital where he was treated further.
