Barn full of hay in Dorset wrecked by fire

Firefighters from three stations were called to tackle a blaze in a barn in Dorset containing 500 large bales of hay.

Crews from Yeovil and Sherborne were called to the property in the Hilfield area, near Leigh, at 16:20 BST.

A third fire engine was subsequently called from Sturminster Newton to bring additional water.

Farm machinery was used to remove some of the hay from the barn into the open so firefighters could damp it down.

Fifteen firefighters were tackling the blaze at its height.

Two fire engines remained in attendance into the evening, damping down and making the scene safe.
