Verwood leisure centre to be Morrisons supermarket

A supermarket chain is to press ahead with buying a Dorset leisure centre so it can expand its store.

The board of Morrisons formally approved the purchase of Verwood Leisure Centre, which had been agreed by councillors in June.

East Dorset District Council said the plan would allow it to "improve and update leisure provision in the town".

The expanded supermarket, in Chilton Drive, Verwood, will also include more parking and a petrol station.

The authority has proposed moving some of the leisure facilities to a nearby school and community centre.

The timescale of both projects has yet to be agreed.
