Man suffering 'the bends' after dive airlifted to Poole

A man who suffered decompression sickness as he was driving home after a dive had to be airlifted to hospital.

The victim alerted the ambulance service of his symptoms from a service station on the M4 motorway, near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 106 airlifted the casualty to the Poole helicopter landing site where he was met by the dive doctor.

He was transferred to the the town's recompression chamber by ambulance.
