Police check approaches to children in Swanage and Wareham

Police patrols have been stepped up in part of Dorset after reports of children being approached by men.

Officers said four separate approaches in Wareham and Swanage between Monday and Thursday had been reported to them.

One man is said to be white and in his 50s with a beard. Another report describes a white man in his 30s, with short dark hair.

They are investigating whether the incidents are linked and said they were taking them "extremely seriously".

The approaches took place in Worgret Road and the High Street in Wareham and in Gilbert Road and Gordon Road in Swanage.

Insp Mike Darby, of Dorset Police, said: "We are treating these reports extremely seriously, as it is not yet known what the motives of the man or men may have been."
