Girl, four, attacked by dog in Dorset

A four-year-old girl suffered facial injuries when she was attacked by a dog outside a supermarket in Dorset.

Police said the animal was tied up outside the Sainsbury's store in Bournemouth Road, Poole, when it attacked the child.

The girl was taken to Poole General Hospital where she was treated on Tuesday evening.

The dog, whose breed has not yet been confirmed, was taken to a police station pending an investigation.

The owner is helping police with their inquiries but has not been arrested, a spokeswoman said.

Officers have appealed for witnesses.
