Dorchester carol concert cancelled over weather fears
An annual lantern parade and carol concert in Dorset has been cancelled after a Met Office forecast predicted heavy rain and strong winds.
Children from local schools were due to parade through Dorchester town centre, ending in a candle-lit carol service at the Borough Gardens at 18:30 GMT.
Mark Smith, an employee of Dorchester Arts, said it was a "popular event".
"With strong winds, a parade of paper lanterns carried by primary school children wasn't a good idea," he said.
The carol concert will now be held on Thursday 22 December.
Children will be encouraged to bring their lanterns to next week's carol service, but as schools will have broken up for the holidays it will be down to their parents whether they attend.
