Injured surfer rescued from Dorset beach

A surfer had to be rescued by helicopter after injuring his leg in a remote area of the Dorset coast.

Coastguards were called to help the man who had been surfing between Osmington and Ringstead in Weymouth Bay shortly before 12:00 GMT on Saturday.

The beach where the man was waiting was so inaccessible, rescue officers from Wyke Regis were unable to reach him.

The man was instead airlifted by Portland's coastguard helicopter to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.
