Fatal crash in Three Legged Cross police pursuit probed

A police pursuit of a car before a fatal crash in Dorset is being investigated the police watchdog.

Steven Brown, 18, died when the Volkswagen Golf he was in crashed near Three Legged Cross early on Sunday.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has said it is examining the two pursuing officers' actions.

It said it would determine "whether their actions were proportionate and in line with force policies and training".

Mr Brown, from Verwood, was taken by ambulance to hospital in Poole but later died. Another 18-year-old man, from Ferndown, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was also taken to hospital.

Police said the vehicle had been identified in an earlier incident when it drove away without paying from the BP petrol station in Ringwood Road, St Leonards.

The marked police vehicle involved was fitted with an internal data recorder and information from it is being downloaded.
