Woman seriously injured by train in Wool

A woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a train in Dorset.

The incident happened on the line near Baileys Drove foot crossing in Wool on Wednesday afternoon.

A British Transport Police spokesman said a woman had received a "glancing blow" from the 11:35 GMT London Waterloo to Weymouth service.

She was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where her condition is described as serious. It is not known why she was on the tracks.

A man, who was with the woman at the time, was uninjured.

He has been taken to a police station in Weymouth and will be questioned about the exact circumstances of the incident.
