Man killed in Dorchester rubbish truck crash
A 72-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was killed when he drove straight in front of a rubbish truck in Dorchester.
It happened as he attempted a U-turn in his Citroen Berlingo from a lay-by on the A35, past the Monkey's Jump roundabout, at 13:10 BST on Friday.
Insp Andy Crook, from Dorset Police, said: "Unfortunately the Citroen left the lay-by directly in the path of a 26-tonne refuse lorry."
He died at the scene. The truck driver was said to be shocked but unhurt.
The driver's wife was also in the car. She was taken to Dorset County Hospital with minor injuries.
Insp Crook added: "There was a huge impact between the two vehicles.
"As a result of the impact severe damage was caused to the driver's side of the Citroen Berlingo."
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
