Sick fisherman rescued from boat outside Poole Harbour

A fisherman had to be airlifted off his boat after he was taken illl off the Dorset coast.

The 20ft (6m) Shetland-type fishing vessel Endeavour sent out a Mayday call from outside Poole Harbour shortly after midday on Saturday.

The Coastguard helicopter was sent from Portland and a winchman, who is also a paramedic, was lowered to the boat to treat the crew member.

He was then taken off and transferred to an ambulance waiting at Sandbanks.
