London 2012: Bournemouth Olympic Torch event details announced

Details of the event to welcome the Olympic Torch to Bournemouth have been announced.

About 10,000 people are expected to attend the free show beside Bournemouth Pier on 13 July.

The highlight will be the arrival of the flame at the end of the 56th day of its relay around the UK.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and local dance groups will take part in the two-and-a-half hour event which will be featured live on BBC TV.

Sue Bickler, from Bournemouth Borough Council, said: "This is going to be a very special day for Bournemouth and we want to make sure we give the Olympic Torch a fantastic welcome."

Tickets for the free event will be available to Bournemouth residents from 15 June and open to others the following day.

The relay finishes at the Olympic Stadium for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, signifying the official start of the Games.
