Detectives launch fresh bid to trace Verwood gunman

Detectives are to return to a Dorset supermarket to find witnesses to an attempted armed robbery.

Police are to visit Morrisons car park in Chiltern Drive, Verwood, between 18:00 and 21:00 GMT - exactly a week after the incident happened.

The man is wanted for threatened his 59-year-old victim with a handgun.

He demanded that the woman hand over money as she got into her vehicle in the car park on 4 January but fled empty handed after she screamed.

Det Sgt Ian Fletcher said: "We want to reassure the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the offender and we hope that as people do their weekly shopping we are able to locate further witnesses."

Officers said they were not linking this incident to an armed robbery at a post office in Highcliffe on 18 December, or to two armed robberies and a kidnapping in Hampshire.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 30 and 40, of medium build, with a northern accent, wearing a black woollen hat and gloves.
