Weymouth Pavilion: Call for community use
A seaside theatre could be saved from closure after a council called for bids to manage the venue for community use.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council had been considering five options for the Weymouth Pavilion - including its demolition.
But on Tuesday, the authority decided to put the running of the building out to tender.
Save the Pavilion said the decision "gave hope" the venue would be preserved.
Last month the authority announced bookings which had already been made at the Pavilion until the end of May would go ahead, including performances of Miss Saigon and That'll Be The Day.
Ian Bruce, head of tourism and culture at the council, had said the future financing of the Pavilion was a "vital issue to be resolved".
The Pavilion is scheduled to close at the end of May.
The recommendation will be heard at a council meeting on 21 February.
