A group of lifeboat volunteers based in Dorset has been awarded medals on behalf of the Queen in recognition of work saving lives at sea.

The 20 RNLI crew members from Poole were presented with the Diamond Jubilee Medal at the RNLI College on Thursday.

The medals were presented by Mrs Valerie Lane-Fox Pitt-Rivers, HM Lord Lieutenant of Dorset.

The longest serving volunteer to receive a medal was crew member Paul Singleton who has served for 31 years.

Mrs Pitt-Rivers said: "They have shown dedication and courage in responding to marine emergencies at any time of the day or night, sometimes in atrocious weather conditions to rescue those in distress at sea."
