Man arrested in Weymouth explosives inquiry

A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing explosives after suspicious items were found at a property in Dorset.

The 32-year-old was arrested in Portwey Close, Weymouth after police were called at about 16:45 BST on Friday.

The area was sealed off overnight with houses nearby evacuated as a precaution but the cordon has since been lifted.

A Dorset Police spokesman said the incident was not thought to be terror related.

The man is being questioned on suspicion of possession of substances under the Explosive Substances Act.

High visibility police patrols have been deployed in the area to reassure residents.
