Bournemouth secondary school expansion plans
Plans are under way to increase the number of secondary school places in Bournemouth.
About 1,800 additional places need to be found from September 2018 as pupil numbers are expected to rise, the borough council has said.
Over the last four years, 60% of primary schools in the town were temporarily or permanently expanded.
Cabinet officers will be asked to investigate government funding for the expansion at a meeting on Wednesday.
Councillor Nicola Greene, cabinet member for education and children's services at Bournemouth Borough Council, said it was important for the authority to "start early" in its bid to increase school places across year groups 7 to 11 from September 2018.
The council said the cabinet would receive a further report in March 2015 on the progress of proposals.
