Gas supplies to homes in Poole affected by a water leak on Monday have been restored, Southern Gas Networks has said.

A section of gas pipe in Culliford Crescent, Canford Heath, flooded after a water main burst.

The gas company said the 650 affected homes had had their gas supplies restored by Saturday evening.

Fifty staff have been involved in the operation and they removed 80,000 litres of water from the site.

Southern Gas Networks apologised and described the work as "particularly challenging".

It added the leak had caused "significant damage" to gas meters and appliances.

The firm supplied electric hobs and heaters to affected homes, and set up a customer centre at St Paul's Church in Culliford Crescent.
