Controlled explosion by bomb team at Lyme Regis beach

A bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion on a Dorset beach after a "corroded item" was found among rocks.

Police were called at 12:16 GMT to Church Cliff beach in Lyme Regis when a member of the public alerted an officer.

The force's deployment manager Chris Dunham said the item looked "like an old shell".

The police cordon was lifted following the explosion at 16:31 GMT.
