West Dorset district councillors have elected a new leader following the departure of Robert Gould.

Anthony Alford was voted in at a full council meeting to replace Mr Gould, who stood down after becoming leader of the county council.

He had been leader at Conservative-controlled West Dorset since 2004.

Mr Alford has represented the Netherbury ward since May 2003 and has been vice-chairman of the executive committee since 2007.
