A car park used by council staff in Bournemouth could be turned into more than 50 town centre homes.

There are plans for eight town houses and 48 apartments at St Stephen's Road car park, near Bournemouth Square.

The homes are being developed by the Bournemouth Development Company (BDC), a joint project between the council and construction firm Morgan Sindall.

An affordable "element" will also be considered when the council's cabinet discusses the plans on Wednesday.

The proposal for St Stephen's Road is the third development brought forward by BDC.

The St Stephen's site is currently used as a car park for council staff on weekdays and as a public car park the rest of the time.

If the cabinet approves the proposals, a planning application for the site will be submitted in the summer and work could start in early 2016.
