Ashley Heath crash victim 'ran from police'

A crash in which a man was hit by a car after running away from police has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The pedestrian, 48, was struck by a BMW in Verwood Road, near Ringwood, Dorset, at about 19:30 GMT on Monday.

Officers had been looking for the man after a green Ford Mondeo estate was found near Ashley Cottages with damage caused by an earlier crash.

The Somerset man ran into the road when he was found by officers, police said.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said he was was recovering in hospital from minor injuries.

The road was closed for several hours for forensic investigations.

The force has appealed for witnesses who may have seen the Ford Mondeo being driven in the Bournemouth or Ashley Heath areas to come forward.
